Creatures VS Humanoids Challenge – The Champions

Creatures vs Humanoids Challenge has ended, it was a pleasure for us to see your progress and the effort you put in your creations. From quick sketches to more refined ones forming into 3D Concept Art.

As a learning process for everybody involved, it was awesome. The effort you put in your visions will pay off. We have seen an incredible development in all you artist that were part of this challenge. And you made it, you reached some of your goals and delivered.

You may not be satisfied with some of your final artwork, but remember, if you are a real artist, you are never satisfied! What we have in common, is the hunger of creation, of creating new worlds, new personalities and reaching further out in our imagination. For later on put that into practice.

We want to thank you fellow artists for being part of this community and for making 3D Concept Art Community even better for each day.

They were in total ten (10) votes where each main vote has three votes, unfortunately three (3) of our sponsors weren’t able to vote. We won’t bore you with statistics, but we can let you know that it was very even with a difference of a few numbers in between for each place, especially the third place. Also in our easy voting system, those who were late was withdrawn points and also if they didn’t follow up to our criterias for the challenge. We hope that you understand this.

Our judgement has been based on techniques, modeling/sculpting, anatomy, storytelling, concept and finally the presentation.

Next, we have already started brainstorming about new ideas to new challenges, both micro and medium sized and super challenges for this year.

So here we present, the Champions of Creatures Vs Humanoids Challenge!!

First place: Juan Luis Mayén

Mods and Judge’s comment and advice:

Love the concept design and presentation. The sculpt is not that clean and refined but shows character and that is what I was looking for at the first sight. Colors and final composition could be improved as well.  – Glauco Longhi

A very nice back-story, a well thought out creature with an revealing design with personality and last but not least and good presentation forming a good harmony of colours. Overall good techniques with a few anatomy flaws – Felipe Chamorro

The sculpture has attitude! Together with a strong concept and great execution in modeling to rendering it is a worthy winner. – Niklas Fischer

Second Place: Alexandra Reeves

Mods and Judge’s comment and advice:

Very interesting concept with wonderful colours and a dynamic pose that reveals his/her features as well a good presentation for his purpose. Difficult and unique anatomy wise. – Felipe Chamorro

Interesting design that feels powerful and dynamic! The pose and the environment is a good match for the character together with the color palette of earth and sky. – Niklas Fischer

Third Place: Nick Devos

Mods and Judge’s Comment and advice:

A fun character in all its gruesome glory!
It looks and gives an impression of evolution gone horribly wrong, in a good way. Good presentation with much character in the pose. I get the feeling it’s just waiting to strangle and eat whatever is in front of it. – Niklas Fischer

A very complex creature with a very well thought out anatomy. Good presentation that could need a little more improvement – Felipe Chamorro

The Late Duck Prize: Kristoffer Kolompar

Mods and Judge’s comment and advice:

Made an unique character with a more indigenous look with some robotics as his partner. It’s a very interesting concept with a lot of different shapes and forms. Kristoffer follows with coherence through the whole character. As it’s your first character, we are impressed!

Honourable mentions
Mario Da Rocha, Sudhir Verma, Leo Schreiber.

Mods and Judge’s Comment:

Our honorable mentions are based on points and also in mods and judge’s comment. They made very good models, strong concepts and good presentations, overall a great effort! Keep it up!

Mario da Rocha – Creature
I really like the sculpted, bulked character. The final presentation is great. The pose really captivated me. The influence from predator with some new sci fi old school gear is great. Congrats! – Glauco Longhi
Very strong character, splendid sculpt. Nice details, a really cool character. But needs improvement in the final composition. – Felipe Chamorro
Really good models and rendering – Niklas Fischer
Sudhir Verma
Really strong concept. I like the head a lot. My advice is to keep working on secundary forms and try to blend the shapes better. The colors and presentations should be improved as well, less saturation and more contrast I think. Anyways, really cool! Keep it up! – Glauco Longhi
Really nice concept, as Glauco stated, I really love your head and it has some kind of really cool influence, very nice posture. – Felipe Chamorro
 Leo Schreiber
A different approach, quadruped  creature. Nice final presentation and anatomy but needs improvement directing the viewers eye. – Felipe Chamorro
